Frequently Asked Questions

Question #1: Why do you breed Corgis?

At Heritage Corgis, we are passionate about Pembroke Welsh Corgis. Our focus isn’t just about breeding dogs; it’s about creating healthy, happy, and well-socialized family companions. Here’s why we do it:

  • Passion for Corgis: Our family’s breeding program is deeply rooted in love for this special breed. We breed only the healthiest and happiest Corgis to ensure that they become the perfect family pets.

  • Commitment to Health: We prioritize the health of each Corgi in our program, from the adults to the puppies. Our Corgis undergo thorough health checks, vaccinations, and DNA testing to ensure they are fit and healthy.

  • Community Support: We are committed to supporting local rescues and animal shelters in our area. Giving back to the community is important to us, and we actively support Corgi rescues to help as many dogs as possible find their forever homes.

  • Raising Future Family Pets: We focus on the enrichment and socialization of our puppies, ensuring they are ready for their new homes as well-rounded and well-behaved companions. Our puppies come with a starter food package, microchip, vaccinations, and AKC registration.

Question #2: Why are your puppies priced at $700?

We understand that $700 may seem like a significant investment in a puppy, but we want to assure you that this price is reflective of our unique approach and commitment to the breed. Unlike many breeders who see breeding as a primary business, Heritage Corgis does not rely on this venture as our primary source of income. We have other businesses that allow us to focus on breeding out of passion, not profit. Here’s a breakdown of why the price is fair:

  • Dedicated Care & Time: Breeding a litter of healthy, well-socialized puppies takes a tremendous amount of time and effort. We spend countless hours each day caring for the puppies, ensuring they receive the best start in life.

  • Health & Well-Being: Our adults undergo extensive health testing, and each puppy is raised with the utmost care. This includes regular veterinary visits, vaccinations, deworming, and more. We don’t cut corners when it comes to the health of our dogs.

  • High-Quality Nutrition & Supplies: Raising healthy puppies involves quality food, supplements, and professional-grade equipment (like whelping beds, toys, blankets, etc.). We don’t compromise on any of these essential elements to give the puppies the best possible environment to thrive in.

  • Socialization & Enrichment: Our puppies receive advanced socialization and early neurological stimulation, which helps them become confident and well-adjusted. They are raised in a loving home with plenty of human interaction and exposure to various environments.

While some breeders may price their puppies at much higher rates, we believe in making these exceptional puppies more accessible while maintaining the highest standards of care. Our pricing ensures that we can continue to provide the best environment for the puppies, while also keeping the costs manageable for families looking to bring a Corgi into their lives.

Question #3: Why is the cost of breeding so high?

Breeding healthy puppies involves much more than just pairing two dogs together. It’s a labor-intensive process that requires time, resources, and expertise. Here’s a breakdown of why breeding is expensive:

  • Initial Costs: Breeding dogs come with high upfront costs. We invest in health testing, good-quality breeding dogs, and the necessary equipment to ensure a successful pregnancy and birth. The costs for a breeding dog can range from $3,000 to $15,000 or more.

  • Vet Care & Supplies: Each year, we spend hundreds of dollars on vet care for both the adults and the puppies. This includes vaccinations, deworming, flea and tick prevention, and general health checks. Additionally, we provide specialized supplies like microchips, health exams, and more.

  • Whelping & Raising Costs: The costs for raising a litter of puppies are substantial. This includes everything from food and bedding to vaccinations and health checks. For example, raising a single litter can cost anywhere from $20,000 to $29,000, with each puppy costing around $2,937 to produce.

  • Socialization & Time Investment: Beyond the financial costs, we spend countless hours socializing, training, and caring for the puppies to ensure they are ready for their new families. This level of dedication requires significant time and attention to detail, which we gladly invest because we want the best for every puppy.

Question #4: How much time do you spend raising the puppies?

Raising puppies is a full-time job! From the moment a litter is born, we are hands-on, ensuring that each puppy receives the care and attention they need. Here’s a glimpse into our daily routine:

  • First Two Weeks: We are dedicated to monitoring the mother and puppies round-the-clock to ensure they are thriving. This includes feeding, cleaning, and weighing the puppies daily.

  • Socialization: As the puppies grow, we introduce them to early neurological stimulation, crate training, litter training, and socialization with other people and environments. These are essential to ensuring that our puppies are confident and adaptable.

  • Constant Monitoring: We spend an average of 224 hours per litter attending to the puppies’ needs, including emails and phone calls with potential families. Each litter requires detailed attention to ensure they are developing as healthy, well-adjusted pets.

  • Ongoing Communication: We also stay in touch with families who have adopted our puppies, offering support and advice whenever needed. We believe in forming lasting relationships with the families who adopt our puppies.

Question #5: What makes your puppies different from others?

At Heritage Corgis, we pride ourselves on not just selling puppies but on raising well-rounded, loving companions. Here’s what sets us apart:

  • Socialization & Enrichment: We invest a lot of time in the puppies’ early development, ensuring they are well-socialized, confident, and ready to join a family. Our puppies experience Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) and are exposed to a variety of environments to prepare them for life as family pets.

  • Health Testing: We take every step to ensure our breeding dogs are healthy, with comprehensive health screenings and regular vet visits. We go above and beyond to ensure the health of our puppies before, during, and after birth.

  • Commitment to Quality: We focus on quality, not quantity. Our puppies are raised in a loving home environment, with plenty of attention and care, ensuring that they are well-prepared for their new homes.
